The Mountain Trail

A circular route, 8.5km long (4 hours). It is a medium to difficult route, suitable for hikers in very good physical condition. The starting point is the Atratsa guesthouse in the centre of Kalopanayiotis village. The finishing point is a little further south on the main road, next to the Pantheon café (an ideal place to regain your strength after your hike!) The only tiring leg of this route is the 1200 m long path which ascends the Katsimboubourou mountainside, to its peak at 1151 m at Kavalos. From this peak onwards, the path follows the ridge, offering breath-taking views of the unspoilt forest landscape as far as the eye can see. From the Apsotiri peak, there is a magnificent view of Kalopanayiotis and Oikos villages. Each spring the landscape erupts in wildflowers and every autumn after the first rains, mushrooms are abundant. The charming chapel of the Archangel Michael is definitely worth a visit towards the end of the route, just before entering Kalopanayiotis.
